India is a country that is constantly evolving, with a fast-growing economy and a dynamic business environment. During a visit to a 5th grade classroom, I was asked by the teacher to reinforce the importance of good nutrition for healthy growth. As I spoke to the kids about the benefits of drinking milk and eating daal or lentils, I was surprised when I took out my mobile phone to take pictures of the classroom.
To my amazement, the children shouted out the correct make and model of my phone – an Apple iPhone 11 Pro Max. This showed me that even in an urban slum, where many families may not have access to the latest technology, there is a high level of awareness and excitement about new gadgets and the possibilities they offer.
The enthusiasm and curiosity of the children suggest that there is a huge potential for the next generation of entrepreneurs and innovators to emerge from India. Despite being well versed in the latest technology, they still didn’t understand the importance of a healthy diet and the impact it has on both their mind and body. A healthy mind and body is a key contributor to the success of the next generation of India’s smartest and most innovative entrepreneurs.
We at Soondra aren’t the only ones that believe that India’s economy is growing rapidly and that bridging equity gaps will further advance it. Fareed Zakaria also believes that India “can best [transform] by helping in the country’s greatest challenge — bringing in the hundreds of millions of Indians who are still on the margins, economically, socially and politically”. Focusing on inclusivity not just for those living on $3-$5 a day but also amongst women would unlock potential for growth that India has not yet seen.
With that, it is important to remember that economic growth and development needs to be balanced with social responsibility and concern for the well-being of all members of society. As we work to harness the potential of India’s business environment, we must also strive to create a society that is healthy, inclusive, sustainable, and equitable.
India is rapidly becoming technologically advanced and I am excited to see how this potential will be realized in the coming years, and Soondra looks forward to being a part of the journey. To bring health education and access to healthcare to India’s next generation, donate to Soondra today.
