Surviving Against All Odds: Ajit’s Story Of Resilience

Pictured is Gayatri Mathur, The Soondra Foundation’s CEO and Founder, with a team at one of our partner hospitals where grantees like Ajit are treated.

Many of our grantees are the financial backbones of their families and cannot afford to fall ill and lose their income, as was the case with Ajit.

Ajit is a young man who dropped out of high school because his father suffers from a disability. He supports his family as a vegetable seller. When Ajit became very sick with blood cancer he was unable to work. Initially he was told the treatment would cost about $21,000, an astronomical expense for a family income of approximately $100 per month. His mother persisted in looking for an affordable  treatment and eventually was told the best thing to do was to travel to Mumbai.  At our partner public hospital, Ajit received a grant from The Soondra Foundation that allowed him to begin his initial chemo and antibiotics.

Today, Ajit has cleared the initial life threatening phase of his cancer and is continuing with the prescribed protocol of chemo.  By helping with his recovery the Soondra Foundation also prevented a financial catastrophe. Your support has helped Ajit and his family to face a future where he can return to work and support his family for many years to come.
