Karan’s Lasting Impact: A Story Of Hope and Humanity

In the past, we have shared stories of grantees who recovered after getting Soondra Foundation micro-grants. Unfortunately, it’s not always a happy ending – today we are sharing the story of Karan who tragically passed away this year. Karan was always full of mischief and constantly cracking jokes. He was a comedian who aspired to join the armed forces when he grew up.

One day, Karan was taking a selfie atop a train carriage but lost his balance. He unfortunately grabbed the nearest object: a 25,000 V electric train cable, causing extensive third degree electrical burns internally and externally. The first three clinics who saw him refused admission due to his poor prognosis.

When the Soondra Foundation heard about Karan, we immediately provided funds to give him a fighting chance. Although he was never able to recover, his four-day admission to a public hospital allowed him to meet with his family, friends and TFI teachers.

The Soondra Foundation gives grants regardless of prognosis because we believe that everybody should have access to treatment. We pride ourselves on helping those in the most dire situations, because everyone, no matter the circumstances, deserves a chance at life-saving care.
