“Who is Soondra?”

Soondra was living and working in India in the 1960s when limited opportunities existed for a childless and uneducated widow. With a strong resolve to break free from poverty, she took on the role of a household assistant for Gayatri’s family even before Gayatri’s birth.

In November 2016, Soondra’s toddler fell and fractured his skull requiring hospitalization. The cost of getting an MRI was equivalent to two months of her salary. She faced a decision: pay up or to not take care of her son – a bleak choice that no one should ever have to make. This incident triggered Gayatri’s earlier experiences of people in similar life situations with no rainy-day savings for medical emergencies.

And then came The Soondra Foundation.
